This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Question about GFS?

#1 Postby EDR1222 » Wed Aug 25, 2004 9:13 pm

Is the AVN the same as the GFS? And if so, earlier it had a path headed toward Texas and now a fish? What is it picking up on?

Please excuse my ignorance with the models.

Thanks

GFS is a combination of the AVN and MRF

That plot from earlier

That plot from earlier, that had Frances going into Texas was over 300 hours out. ANY model that for out is for entertainment purposes only. In fact, I don't even pay them much attention past 144 hours (witch is stretching it).

Now the 00Z GFS has it back in the Gulf in 384 Hours. However, this is for entertainment purposes only.

Entertainement purposes or not, it is indicating it meaning it can easily change and even change back as the system continues westward.
