Recon?

#1 Postby Brent » Thu Aug 26, 2004 5:55 pm

Any recon scheduled to go into Frances yet? It's going to cross 50W tomorrow which is as far as recon goes.

Frances isn't threatening land and won't come close to the islands for a couple of days. The recon outlook for this morning says negative requirement tomorrow. I think the earliest they would do it is Saturday.

They will wait until it gets to 55w where generally they start to fly missions.

I would think that if Frances is gaining strength as fast as it seems to be that the would get a recon in there as soon as it was within range...weather it is a threat to land or not...Just to get information....

Last year immediately after Isabel crossed the 55W Longitude a RECON was investigating the system, so I think is very possible they will send an airplane to investigate the system around Sunday. After all, it's a good idea because then we know exactly what strengh Frances has and not by estimating.

Recon went into Fabian at 56 W and Isabel at 58 W last year. That's where they were when the planes arrived.

The reason they have to wait until it crosses the 55ºW benchmark is for "fuel requirements" to fly a mission ...
