IT'S ALL IN THE NAME!!!

I'm tellin ya, it all comes together perfectly for Frances to be the next Fran (and to end Fayetteville's long wait for the next "big one" :D). First, look at her name. Is that a sign or what?! Second, check out the track. Almost right on Fran's track, only Frances' track is farther south! Meaning a better chance!! Next, look at the last 2 hurricanes to really affect Fayetteville. Both were F-named storms; Fran and Floyd. Finally, get a load of this. Frances is on pace to make landfall on or very close to September 5. Wow. Anybody here in Fayetteville doesn't need any more explanation about the significance of that date.

Maybe I am putting just a little bit of wishful thinking in this, but I've got a feeling this is Fran's second coming. Get ready for a wild start to September.

I think Frances is already retire, it just need to end the season and they will be trying to find another name. But Frances may want to give enough reasons to retire the name and after all be remember not because it was retire thanks to France but because something more. Interesting!

Regardless of what Frances does, this is the last year it will be on the list. The French requested it be retired after 2004 in 2002.

Don't ask.

I'll be Dr.Steve Lyons for a second.
Well, the good news is, if this storm hits the U.S we actually have a reason to retire the name.

That's what I was referring to. Maybe we can reclaim the retiring rights if it is a major storm at landfall.

I have been thinking about that today as well. Seems eery to me when I think about Floyd and Fran and now here is Frances. I don't mind a nice breezy day to keep the skeeters away, but don't care much for flying debris.

Hey, you gotta have something to believe in :P

Seriously, though, that's not just the reason why I think it's coming here. NC seems to be a magnet to storms. Why not now? It's on the right track, so you never know. Unless, of course, the EVIL Mr. Trough steps in. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Mr. Trough, don't spoil it for us this time :grr:

I can't believe we are retiring a name just because the French asked us to. Since when do we do what the French want anyway!

Frances could indeed impact North Carolina (although my current feeling is areas much farther south are at highest risk), but the patterns influencing Frances tonight are much different than in September 1996.

A major reason Fran struck North Carolina was interaction between it and another even more intense hurricane (Edouard). In fact, at one point the two hurricanes were so close together that Edouard's outflow created shear which weakened Fran. There will be no such interaction between Frances and another powerful hurricane.

Without the interaction with hurricane Edouard in 1996, it's quite possible hurricane Fran would have taken a different path and missed the North Carolina coast entirely.

Yep. These are two different scenarios. But I do think area of greatest risk from this one is sc/nc.
