Sadly....no  Like I had said, this is now a criminal investigation and the worst fears, like Steve said, are coming to light now, we're praying for the best but fear the worst. It was HEART wrenching to see the family so distraught over this young mans disappearnce....I feel like we should have/could have done more but there's limitations to what we, as K9 handlers can do

Dennis

Dennis - what is the latest update on this young man's disappearance? Almost afraid to ask but I've been worried about him.

Several sightings have been reported but nothing confirmed....like I said, this has turned into a criminal investigation for the WMAT CSI and the FBI....there's a LOT to this story that I cannot post due to reasons I can't explain at the moment. At least he's still alive *we HOPE*

Folks, I don't quite know how to say this other than to be really blunt, the 601 (lost person) was found deceased this morning at 0840 by the WMAT Police Dept and the Navajo County Sheriff's Dept. I can't post the details in respect for the family. As you can only imagine, we, the Apache K9 SAR Unit are grieving heavily for the family. As a SAR Unit, you try your best not to become attached to the family, in this case, we did and the hurt we feel is uncomprehensible, we feel as if we didn't complete the search. As Bill AKA Streetsoldier will tell you, the P.O.D. (probability of dectection) is very low, 30%-40%, UNLESS you do a complete saturation grid search, we didn't have the man power to do so. Please utter a prayer for the family tonight and keep us in your prayers also.

Already praying Dennis - you ask and I will pray for them. And your unit. That is very tragic, not at the outcome you all hoped and prayed for. But one you feared at the same time.

Really sorry to hear this Dennis.

Thank you, your prayers and concerns comfort me. Indeed Marshall, we know in our hearts we did out best but yet......there's that tugging at your heart, that little voice in the back of your mind telling you that you COULD have done better. We play this scenario in our heads at our weekly training sessions on Thursdays, we try to prepare ourselves for the worst case scenario but like with loosing a loved one to a terminal illness, your NEVER ready for the final outcome in which we all know the ending. We LOVE what we do, we LOVE helping our fellow man.....all search and rescue volunteers, even the paid units, go into the field praying for the best and we know, in the back of our minds, the chances of finding a 901D is always a possibility. In the 3 years Michelle and I have been involved with K9 SAR....this is our first Recovery mission, not a Rescue.

Sorry to hear the news. Sometimes the worst news is that someone came within a few yards of that location earlier in the search...and never noticed.

Remember a guy committed suicide by driving his car into a quarry. We could see the bubbles from the car...the fuel on the water...but the divers needed a team before they could in...too deep and dangerous. We lost him before we could locate him.

Amen to the dedicated volunteers...sometimes there are not happy endings.
