Can we rein in the hysteria and get real?
Frances is 10 yep that's 10 days out from the mainland. 10 days in the tropics is a long time. As for CAT 4, CAT 5, if the NHC can't accurately predict intensity why create hysteria in here? Personally, I'd love to see a CAT 5 as it turns out to sea. Let's watch it and have fun folks but way to early to start firing up the masses. We have to watch and wait but anyone that reads this has plenty of time to get ready. NO one can predict the intensity of this storm and right now no one but God knows exactly where it's going to go. I'm not a meteorolgist I'm in emergency management. We prepare for the worst we hope for the best but we don't react to something that's a long way from being a threat to anyone on the mainland. Just my two cents. Hate to see such hysteria long before hysteria is called for.

HI B-Bear. Here is the hysteria: hysteria! hysteria! blah blah blah hysteria!
Now Downdraft can refer to something that is present on the message board.

well, there are several of us who live in the Caribbean who may not have 10 days. I get upset when people on this board only refer to the USA and do not consider the islands. It seems to me that if this is a board for all, then those of you who live in the USA should not sit back and have fun watching this storm when those of us in the islands have to be more concerend right now! You should have some consideration for us too!

There's the hysteria! Sorry, j/k.
I am concerned for wherever this storm hits. And I'm sorry that I am watching this storm with a little bit of excitement. I can't help myself. I am awestruck by the forces of weather. But that doesn't mean I don't care about you or any other people that might be affected by Frances.

You're right msbee and many of us do consider the islands. Unfortunately, I don't have any meteorological advice for you except ask questions if you have them and hopefully the mets or amateurs can help you. Oh, and please be prepared, just in case!
downdraft...I really don't see any hysteria but of course I haven't read every single post.

Sorry Ms.B
Your right I wasn't thinking about the Islands. And, yes you have every right to be concerned. I guess I just react to people making predictions without any basis in fact. If I was in the Islands I'd be very worried right now as you are. You have every right to be.

But people aren't making predictions without any basis in fact. To the contrary, people are speculating based upon available data, forecast conditions, current conditions, and historical trends. That's what weather enthusiasts do, and, unless I'm mistaken, that is what this message board is for.

I need a new roof and I had a flood in my home that affected every room but ONE thanks to Charley. I have over 20K of damage. I can't afford my deductible, so while I am not hysterical, but extremely concerned about my family and our home. Charley is still very fresh in our minds.

MsBee
You know I am glad Barbara brought this up. It has been very disconcerting reading about concerns 10 days out in MD or some such place when we are facing something that we are measuring in hours not weeks.
Try to think of others in the path that come before you.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Who's hysterical? Most folk here are doing what they've done before. Providing good information and analysis.

Well, if you are not a weather buff or met who understands these things, then it's hard to put two and two together. But I trust most of the folks here because you guys take the time to study the data and render opinions.
