Prof. Mets... Any chance?

#1 Postby EDR1222 » Fri Aug 27, 2004 8:09 pm

Any chance of a possible recurve of this thing? Looks like the troughs that were around in July and August have abondoned us. If it has to hit anywhere the best case scenario would appear to be around North Carolina. I definately wouldn't want to see them get hit , but it seems like at least if it hits up there it would have a better chance to run into less favorable conditions and maybe weaken somewhat. I guess we can only hope and pray for a fish :(
Seems like alot of the hurricanes we get here in Fl are so intense. 1926, 1928, 1935, 1947, 1949, 1960, Andrew, Opal, Charley. All of these qualify as some of the worst storms on record. I guess being at a lower latitude here in FL and favorable upper air currents are the reason. Is this correct?

Any thoughts?

I don't see anything that will recurve it enough to put it out to sea. Don't think (at this time) it is a south Florida storm...but they can't be ruled out until we see how the ridge shapes up and when Frances starts to bump up against it...how far north does it get before that happens.

Everyone is a possible player. I still think b/w the Cape and the SC/GA border...but NC has to watch too.

Sorry EDR1222...hitting land anywhere is a disaster. As a vet of Donna, Fran, and Floyd, even a Cat. 1 can leave communities broken and desperate. Just ask the folks in Princeville, NC who are still living in temp shelter after Floyd. We lost our windows to Donna, a roof to Fran, and my childhhood home wash washed away down to the concrete slab by floodwaters of the Tar River. NC would definitely not be a best case scenario. Fish would be a best case scenario.

I didn't say hitting NC was a best case scenario. I would hope to see a fish. God knows NC has had more then there share lately, but a cat 1 or 2 there is better than a big chunk of Florida getting completely obliterated by a major hurricane. That is all I was saying. I have been through a few and I know that small ones can also do extensive damage.

My apologies EDR1222. I misinterpreted this quote -
"If it has to hit anywhere the best case scenario would appear to be around North Carolina."
