Tropical depression nearing tropical storm strength,
A tropical storm watch remains in effect for the southeastern u.s. Coast from surf city north carolina southward to fernandina beach florida.
At 8 am edt, 1200z, the center of tropical depression seven was centered near latitude 31.3 north, longitude 78.3 west or about 135 miles, 215 km, southeast of charleston south carolina.
The depression is stationary but a west to west-northwest drift is expected today.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph, 55 km/hr, with higher gusts. Satellite images indicate that the depression is very near tropical storm strength.
Estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 mb, 29.80 inches.
Locally heavy rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches are possible along the path of the depression.
