it seems to me the bermuda low will force gaston more south and west

Sounds reasonable to me, but when I brought this sort steering pattern observations off the east coast, in the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico/Bay of Campeche region... another scenario is mentioned and like expected the forecast calling for the "opposing steering flow" takes place.
This certainly doesn't mean I don't know my meteorology.
