I'm no expert, but from satellite loops Gaston doesn't appear to be a cane yet, but it may not be long. Very vigorous surface circulation with massing convection. Hurricane chances at landfall look maybe a little better than 50-50.
It's not the winds that are the big danger, or the surge. It's the potential floording rains.

whats the concensus about gaston's influence..
on the future track of frances. I've heard a little about it possibly weakening part of the ridge thats supposed to build in. Does anyone have more information. All opinions welcome.
