Statement as of 11:30 am EDT on August 28, 2004
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...
The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Frances...centered about 740 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands...and on newly upgraded Tropical Storm Gaston ...centered about 130 miles southeast of Charleston South Carolina.
Showers and thunderstorms associated with the low pressure area centered about 225 miles south-southwest of Bermuda have become better organized this morning. A tropical depression could form from this system later today or Sunday as it moves northwestward.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through Sunday.
Public advisories on Tropical Storm Gaston are issued under wmo header wtnt32 and under AWIPS header miatcpat2. Forecast/advisories are issued under wmo header wtnt22 and under AWIPS header miatcmat2.

Anyone thinking this could come close to affecting Cape Cod??? I know that is a ways out, but some of the models bring it pretty close.

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Frances...centered about 690 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands...and on Tropical Storm Gaston ...centered about 115 miles southeast of Charleston South Carolina.
A low pressure area is located about 250 miles southwest of Bermuda and is accompanied by some thunderstorm activity. This system could become a tropical depression during the next 24 hours.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected through Sunday.
