A suggestion to those with friends and family in SE Florida

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

A suggestion to those with friends and family in SE Florida

#1 Postby scogor » Sat Aug 28, 2004 6:19 pm

This is probably not a good time to email and/or call friends and family in SE Florida to offer your home (assuming you've got the room and even if you don't it probably beats a shelter hands down!!) to them "just in case". I just emailed two couples in Broward and Palm Beach Counties and told them not to mess around with a category 4 or 5 hurricane (one of the things I learned from my visit to Charlotte County last Sunday) and that they are welcome to evacuate to my home here in Sarasota. You really want to make sure that those that are near and dear to you understand that they MAY (and you certainly should stress the MAY so they don't freak out or think you are a panic-monger) be dealing with a catastrophic event soemtime before Labor Day and they should NOT try to "ride out the storm". Get them thinking ahead...

It's quite a lengthy drive, but all are welcomed to come to Louisiana - plenty of places to stay, nice weather (front should bring cooler temps and lower humidity and keep tropical systems away), and, of course, GREAT FOOD. Come on over, we'd love to have ya. 8-) :D :D 8-)

Looks like the whole east coast of Florida is a potential target. But then ... upper level troughing associated with Gaston could deflect Frances away from all land. The NHC forecaster who said of Frances, "there will be interesting days ahead" was spot-on.
