Never seen so much hype.....

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Never seen so much hype.....

#1 Postby Anonymous » Sun Aug 29, 2004 12:39 pm

...on this forum, in all the times I have visited.

From the absurd, to the hilarious.

All the posts about; Breaking developments, to ding ding, to look at this, to blah blah. It's incredible!

The bottom line is.

THERE IS NOT A SINGLE PERSON ON THIS BOARD, THAT WOULD BET THEIR LIFE, ABOUT A PROJECTED PATH/LANDFALL, EVEN INSIDE OF 72 HRS. NO ONE KNOWS AT THIS TIME AND I WOULD BET, THAT THEY COULDN'T PREDICT AN AREA OF LANDFALL, IF THERE WAS EVEN GOING TO BE ONE, WITHIN 200 MILES AT THIS POINT.

So...why doesn't everyone, and you know who you are, just take a step back and look at the unnecessary hype you generate with such MESSAGE HEADERS. When the storm gets within a projected landfall time frame, THEN and ONLY then, would it be NEWS!

No need for the hyped message headers.

I happen to like them. We are here to discuss the storms. And I don't think it is all that hyped at all.

I agree way too much hype for something that could fall apart (it has happened before) before even coming close to the US coastline.

I think there is a difference between discussing interesting possibilities based upon data and -removed- and presenting it as probable occurence.

It is a freakin' cat 4... with major implications on all sensible weather for the next week. This is a TROPICAL forum filled with people who discuss the tropics. We have every right to be concerned, especially those in Florida and the Carolinas as well as the islands who may have to deal with this monster.

Or if you have issues with what they are doing, take it up with a mod. or admin. They would be more than happy to listen to your concern. They listen to mine all the time. ;)

Here! Here!

I'm not going to tell anyone what they should or shouldn't post. I do have a modest request, though: COMPLETE SUBJECT LINES!

These are the worst:
"What's happening?"
"Oh no!"
"The 12z run shows"
"What?"
or my favorite:
"I have a question"

Or you can respond & speak your mind & make a point without insulting someone.I mean isnt that human nature.

Somethings are hard to ignore & should be dealt with properly.

IMHO, subject lines are like headlines. The catchier they are... the more people read them. Like it or not...

I don't have any issues with people saying where tropical systems are going. And some of them I do ignore, but their is a difference between outragous and some dialouge. And I know what your going to say, free speech and opinion. I hope the board is not becoming a numbers board to see how many opinions we can get to set a record. Let us be a little responsible and not go on goose chases. This only promotes hysterial and panic. I believe the chat rm will be better place for it.

Sure there is hype. Just this morning on the radio here in New Orleans emergency managers will be meeting early tomorrow to discuss evacuations. These are the same people that predict New Orlans and its surounding areas will be un-inhabital for 10 months after a cat 4 or 5 direct hit us.... now thats hype.

I personally love the discussions and to see what others think.
