Is Frances diverting attention from this storm?

well, it took most of the attention from Gaston. However, with this one, I'd say landfall is a possibility from the Outer Banks to Boston, so this will grab the news because of the big cities here (no offense honestly to the people in south carolina)

I don't think I've ever seen anything like this, i.e., three tropical systems in a row separated by such short time intervals and all threatening the same areas. Truelly amazing!!!!

Actually, I don't know that this is for TD8 - it may be some other operation (G-IV or something else?). Can anyone tell for sure?

It just goes to show how mother nature likes to go crazy sometimes i think. It has been an amazing and devistating season thus far. Daisy

what worries me most is the possibility of the remnants from each of these systems tracking over the same area, which could have devastating consequences with regard to flooding. I pray that this does not happen.

That's in the northeast Gulf - 28.1N 85.0W. Don't ask me why they'd be going there - I don't see anything of interest.

That's probably where they have taken off from, or close to it.

OK, that makes sense. They flew out of Tampa and headed north, then they'll turn east and check out the new system.

Guessing it is the high-altitude jet that will be dropping GPS-sondes to sample the synoptic environment. Makes sense to get this data ASAP so it can be assimilated into the 00Z models.

They do fly out of Biloxi. They are probably just doing a check or test on their way to the storm they are headed to.

I bet that is the NOAA Research plane. It's due out tonight in time for the evening model runs. It won't go INTO Frances, but will fly at high altitudes AROUND it.
