Computer Forcast Model Questions

#1 Postby weatherfsu » Sun Aug 29, 2004 4:46 pm

I am new to the board, but have been following hurricanes and other weather events for years now. I actually majored in Meteorology in the early 90's at Rutgers University but chose a different career path. With that being said, I have some questions about the computer models everyone references.

1. What are the common models, and where are they run from? (Meaning is model X from the US Military, or someplace else)

2. I have heard in the past that the Met. Dept. at Florida State runs a computer model that is fairly accurate wth hurricanes. Is this one of the common models, or is that just one they use for themselves?

3. Where (other than in posts here) can I find these models online?

Thanks for the help. I am so happy I stumbled accross this site, it is awesome.
