Where ever you are, I hope you stay safe.
I moved from Cocoa Beach about 1983.
In Miami now.
Got a speeding ticket driving through Brevard County just recently. Those cops have always hit 95 pretty hard. Was going much faster than Gaston's winds but slower than Frances'

Colin/Windsong: How funny! Central FL reunion here! We should probably take this out of the storm board, but nice to find some local friends here! Want to post further? Any suggestions where?

Personally, I think we would be better to not look at models right now and concentrate on getting public along Florida coast, GA, SC, NC, and even the Gulf coast to make sure preparations that should have been done in June are done now. Gaston was a reminder that a storm can form anywhere along the coast.

Speaking of Cape Canaveral and hurricanes, does anyone remember the Hollywood film that involved a hurricane hitting the Kennedy Space Center?
The movie was "Marooned" and came out in 1969. Three astronauts become stranded on an orbiting space station and their only hope is a rescue mission before the oxygen runs out--and time is running out fast.
However the rescue mission blastoff is aborted when a hurricane moves in, seemingly ending all hope. But in the nick of time, the eye moves over the Cape and a hasty liftoff sends David Janssen on his way to save the day. In some ways the film was eerily predictive of the Apollo 13 incident a year later.

Cape Canaveral / Cape Kennedy
Since there are several people here from the area, could one of you help me clear up the difference / if any, between Cape Kennedy and Cape Canaveral?

And my children go to Eau Gallie High School... my best friend is a science teacher at Merritt Island HS. I teach science in Palm Bay.
BTW... don't forget about the birds in the hanger being prepped for Spring... or all the support equipment at KSC that is NOT rated for 125 mph winds...
I see a messy weekend ahead even if we are missed by 75 miles...
We prayed specifically this morning for the storm to stay at sea (NOT turn toward some other state!).
The school I serve has SOOOOO many portables right now (they call them "learning cottages"... but when the wind hits, they revert back to portables!)
Stay safe and prepare, fellow Brevardians!

I believe that the Cape itself is Cape Canaveral, the area covered by NASA was renamed Cape Kennedy in honor of the President.....I believe.
Check out history here....

LBJ decided that it would be great to rename a Cape that already had a name (thankyouverymuch) to honor President Kennedy after his assassination. It stood for a number of years until us old-timers finally were able to get the name officially changed back to Canaveral. No disrespect to Kennedy. The space center should have been named after him, but to brazenly change the name of a geographical feature was nonsense.
