I will no longer make forecasts for Frances...

Given the fact that it may be (I THINK) a catgeory 4 or category 5 US landfall.

I hear ya mate. Forecasting it wouldn't be so bad, but forecasting it and being WRONG would make it very hard to look in the mirror.

well i thought since you stop after a cat 3 there might be a problem with your model not working

I really am surprised this is 120 mph. I think it may be 140 mph by 5pm. FINE... I will make a forecast.

Forecasting is actually for quite the opposite. Sure, some of weather buffs, like make forecast of own, for fun. But forecasting really is about informing the public about on whether or not the weather will disrupt their plans or their lives. It is the responsibility of the mets to do exactly that. You should see forecasting hurricanes as a way to warn people that the storm is out there and where it's going. So they can be prepared for it. That would be saving lives.
