Very interesting view on the NRL website. Go to the NRL website and click on Frances, and then on the satellite image. Choose the size and then click either Most Recent or Every Other. GOES-12 is in rapid mode, scanning images every minute. Very nice.

I noticed that heavy convection has once again wrapped itself around the eye.

Looks like Frances is strengthening.

Newbie question - how can you tell that Frances is undergoing eyewall replacement?

Any indication as to why Frances lost strength yesterday? Was eyewall replacement involved?

I notice by looking at the IR images and noticing the eye is ragged, warming of cloud tops near the eyewall and soon greatly deepening clouds tops(much colder, dark red) ....

Usually for the cycle the 'cane weakens a little bit and then rapidly intensifies once the cycle is over.

As far as it weakening yesterday, Local mets kept saying the it was being sheared a little on the south side.
