No!! Merrit Island is an evacuation zone. If you get the big storm surge, the lower floors will fill with sand and water & you won't be able to exit the building!! Think about going down the stairs and realizing that you can't exit the bottom!! This is why all barrier islands along the East coast of Florida are evacuation zones even in minimal Hurricanes.

honestly, it depends on where hte condo is. If its on the beach, then not likely in a Cat 3 or 4. Perhaps in a Cat 1,2 but otherwise hte surf would be too high and too violent to safely hold out in a condo. If youre in an evacuation zone, and on an island, get hte hell off it as soon as you can, because if frances comes calling, no one will be htere to rescue you in those floodwaters if your building fails. remember drowning kills most people in huerricanes.
