I don't think that eyewall is open. I think it's just getting restabilized after its last eyewall recycling phase. I could be wrong though.

I don't think its having problems...you don't see a dry air slot...like its not coming from anywhere but just appearing perhaps a sign of reorganization?!

I'll tell you what...that new eye is BIG. And now it's going to be getting into even warmer water. So it will likely get bigger and meaner overnight.

She finally has some land in sight and she's blinking her eye to try and decide where to visit.

I think it was just warming the Atmosphere around it. Meaning pumping more warm and moist air into the Atmosphere. This thing is spinning with so much energy in power now. That I would not be at all suprized by Tomarrow if it looked like Isabel.

I have yet to see one thing that will keep this from being the second half of Florida's worst nightmare.

it's actually the establishment of the new 40 nm eye.

the whole center should clear out in an hour or so...

view the water vapor loop... it's a much better view

I don't think dry air should be much of a factor at this point. Winds should be high enough that the boundary layer should be saturated from sea spray and evaporation. If there is any dry air intrusion, it would have to be at the mid-levels, and since there isn't much shear, there isn't anyway to really transport it in.

What we're seeing is probably an eye wall replacement cycle, one that is rather degrading to the overall structure of the storm, but it will quickly recover by tomorrow morning. Outflow is now very strong, except for maybe the E side of the storm, which is one of the requirements for rapid deepening. Don't be surprised if during its next burst that Frances gets close to Cat 5 status as the outer eyewall contracts.

Deffinetly a new eye... this may be a nightmare when it contracts.

Once upon a time I dreamed of hurricanes merrily spinning in my direction. Now I hope this thing doens't even come into the gulf. *sighS* Sorry Florida... I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
