Keep your head down TRProvo. It could be more than a brush!

Please be safe there and hopefully no tragic events happen there.

She seems to have taken more of an oval shape, than circular.

AT the moment the sun is out and its a bit breezy but were not expecting too much trouble until this afternoon. However the projections seem to be that we will only get the edge of the Hurricane force winds which start at around 76 mpy (I believe) and thats not too bad... but everyone here on the island has battened down and homes are usually well built to withstand hurricane force winds so fingers crossed. Boats might have a problem in the marinas though and high tides this evening coupled with storm surge could affect beachfront properties.

This site might interest anyone watching Frances http://www.oceanweather.com/data/
Click Caribbean Sea

Is there a way to post .jpg files? Thought I might post a few pics if the situation warrants it later in the day.

Something I should mention also is that I'm located at the western edge of the Turks & Caicos Islands and the guys in Grand Turk will probably see more action than us later today. They're about 80 miles to the ESE of my location.

Indeed. The Hurricane, though still looking extremely powerful, is beginning to be pulled apart from the North and South a bit. Maybe a little bit TOO much ventilation from the North :)

Some of that is the Outer Structure interacting with the Islands. We will probably continue to see this for a while. Then the storm should briefly reorganize more symetrically right about the time it gets to Florida before weakening a bit due to more interaction with Land and some Light Shear.

Should be about 145 at Landfall

Historically this sort of elongation or oval shaped feature can indicate the start of a turn. Bertha, Fran, Floyd to name few.

To conserve bandwidth, it would probably be best to post links to pictures and not the actual pictures.

No, but natural poleward motion does not need much help to bend a hurricane more northerly. Any path of least resistance is taken especially if it is more northerly.

Yes I understand regarding posting URL's instead of jpegs. But since I unfortunately don't have a web site to refer to I thought some direct pics might be appropriate. However I can understand how it would gobble up bandwidth if even a few got into the habit. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Well.....shucks.

If you don't have a url, I suppose one or two pix won't hurt.

Postin Hurricane Pics

#20 Postby TRProvo » Wed Sep 01, 2004 9:40 am

No yahoo e-mail either unfortunately but if I have anything to post I'll post a message and then either work something out or e-mail the pics to someone who can.

Computer went down and took me offline for a while so sory for the delay in replying.

Winds picking up here now but still just a strong breeze.
