With the water profile, when something does kick off, it will be a monster.

For that matter, check out the west coast of Florida.

Hmm..... You might have to rephrase this question. The Big question is if the Western Gulf/ NW Gulf will see a storm. There is no doubt that a storm will affect the Eastern/ NE Gulf.

Bonnie is a prime example that warm SST's are not nearly enough to create a monster system.

YankeeGirl,

With the global indices as they are this year (ENSO, regional anomalies, QBO, etc.), there has typically been some Gulf activity after September 1.

Moreover, in years that meet the following profile that is similar to 2004, there have also been 3 or more Gulf of Mexico storms after August 31:

• Development of 4 or more named storms in August
• Development of 3 or more hurricanes in August
• U.S. landfall of at least one major hurricane
• First named storm developed July 25 or later

Needless to say, not all of these Gulf of Mexico storms from years meeting the above profile were hurricanes and more than half actually impacted Mexico rather than the United States.

Charley wasnt a Gulf of Mexico storm, was it? Didnt it originate in the Atlantic or Caribbean?

That is true, but it entered the Gulf. Therefore it is a Gulf Storm.

Yeah, lol my foot. Come on over here and take a look at the destruction and mess people are in and how frightened people are about Frances. This isn't entertaining. Go rent "The Perfect Storm" or something if you're bored.
