Maybe because of the uncertainty and the fact that the storm is large.

Probably because the officials don't want another Floyd on their hands. They probably figure it is better to give early warning than late warning and have people sitting on the roads.

Maybe they are having conferences with the NHC--The discussion from 5 pm said they are thinking about shifting the track to the right. Maybe Ga already has been told this is gonna happen,

SC coastal communities are making plans for evacuation as they rightfully should. But this will only happen if the storm truly does make a more northern move during the next 24 hours. It probably will not be neccessary, but you have to be prepared.

You know it cost $$$$$ to order a evacuation. Its a terrible drain on the economy and this is a holiday weekend to boot.
To order a evacuation is no small feat and all aspects must be considered.

As Steve Lyons is pointing out on TWC Frances is not near as large a storm in size when compared to Floyd (which name comes up every post), Frances size wise is average.

I haven't heard any local news here in Charleston. Talked to my parents on HHI and they said maybe Fri. for evacuations for them.

Yesterday, I heard yesterday on TWC that Frances was sending out 10 to 15 foot waves ahead of itself.

If this is true, those waves would batter many GA and SC coastal towns.
Full Moon was only two days ago.

Having watched the local news for the umteenth time, it says what we've all heard before; watch and wait, but looking unlikely for a direct hit. I think everyone's biggest headache is going to be from the rain. We still haven't recovered from Gaston's rainfall, this'll add insult to injury.

So you have you guys in SC stocked up on supplies? Went to the grocery store and bypassed the water. I need to go tomorrow anyway and thought I would wait until then to see how our chances looked.
Have all the flashlights ready. Freezer is empty, important docs secure, bought some shelf safe milk. But before I buy a gazillion gallons of water, I thought I should wait.

i have gotten a few things ---water, bread, batteries and a small portable radio. I don't think it will come here...

I wouldn't wait too long. But I was able to find water at the Earth Fare in Mt. Pleasant. They have a machine where you can fill up jugs for 80 cents.

I went to buy bread today at Publix and it was all gone except for the real expensive stuff. I was planning on making sandwiches. Bread isn't something I would think there would be a run on. Publix did have a ton of cheap gallons of drinking water for about the same price too.
