Prayer time

#1 Postby Tommedic » Thu Sep 02, 2004 7:27 am

I try not to interject my beliefs into my Tropical thoughts. However, now is a time for all that believe (whether strongly or just as a by chance) in the power of prayer. My prayer will be first for those that don't know where they would be they took their last breathe. I would pray that they take time to reach out to the One that loved them so much he sent His Son for their sins. See we will all die sooner or later, and we need to be prepared for that.

Next, I pray for the safety of all the people that are being affected and will be affected. With so many people having to evacuate and so few choices as to a safe harbor for them, tempers will flare and some will make stupid choices, that we cannot change. Please pray for all that live in the path of Frances.

And for those that do believe in miracles, I guess a prayer for a rapid decrease in strength or a sudden unexplained change in course would be appropriate.

And then for a more practical application.. If you believe in prayer, then you believe in compassion and giving. Please give ASAP to organizations that will be providing support. Salvation Army, Red Cross, maybe your own church's organization such as the Baptist Men's groups that came to SC and NC after their storms. Also, contact the local Red Cross and give blood.

I know that there will be some offended. Understand this, I am sorry to offend you, but I'm not. I hope you understand. The people that are affected by Frances will be affected in a way very few of us can even comprehend. This storm in the end will affect us all. Remember that we get many fruits and vegetables from Florida. Prices will go up.

Again, sorry if I offended anyone, and I apologize to board managers and owners for any violation I may have done in not focusing directly on Tropical matters. However, I felt this on my heart and had to express it.

May God- the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Moses be with us all in this time of turmoil and troubles.

Wonderful post. Amen & Amen. So glad you posted it. I am a Floridian, living & working in West Africa. I am praying & fasting here with some friends asking the Lord for protection on all in Frances' path... and yes, praying for a miracle: rapid weakening or sudden turn out to sea.

Here's a Lutheran prayer liturgy I found online shortly before Charley. (L) = leader (C) = congregation, but of course, it can be prayed privately too...

L: Lord, have mercy.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: Christ, have mercy.
C: Christ, have mercy.

L: Lord, have mercy.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: In the face of peril and apprehension, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: In the face of mighty winds, thunderous sounds, strong rains, and surging waves, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: In the face of complete uncertainty, as well as concern for our loved ones, here or elsewhere, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: In the face of our own vulnerable mortality, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: For the strength that God alone can give us, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: For all that it takes to keep our children calm and safe, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: For faith that can move mountains and remove all fear, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: For trust in God’s loving presence in our midst, even at this very hour, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: For trust that in life and in death, God will not abandon us, let us pray to the Lord.
C: Lord, have mercy.

L: Almighty God, we poor creatures place our lives into your hands that you might protect and guide us according to your will; Lord, in your mercy,

C: Hear, our prayer.

L: Do not hold our sins against us, but remember us in our faith and love for you; Lord, in your mercy,
C: Hear, our prayer.

L: Be our light in the darkness, our hope in the storm, our peace in the chaos, our trust in the unknown; Lord, in your mercy,
C: Hear, our prayer.

L: Mighty are your works, O Lord, and mighty is your saving hand. Turn your ear to our petitions and supplications; Lord, in your mercy,

C: Hear, our prayer.

L: God of heaven and earth, God who carries our lives and the lives of our whole community in your hands, be with is in the peril of this day/night. Help us to release our anxieties and fears into those same caring hands, knowing in faith that your will for us is life and everlasting good. Send your holy angels to watch over us and guard us. May they spread their holy wings to give us shelter against the storm. For you alone, O God, are all good, all life, all love, and that love is for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

C: Amen

I certainly don't take offense to what you just posted, Tom, as my prayers are going out to everyone as well. The latest projections bring this somewhere between Jupiter and Vero but winds are going to be affecting thousands of people outside that small area as well. As you pointed out, everyone will be affected in one way or another - either by the storm itself or by the aftermath of the storm.

God is good, all the time and all the time, God is good. Even in the face of a hurricane like Frances. God is not sending this hurricane to anyone but he will be with you through it, however you are impacted by it. Remember the poem "Footprints in the sand." He will carry you through. God Bless all of you and we will be praying for everyone.

I have noticed that a lot of you that post valuable information here live in Florida. While I don't post (I am awed by the knowledge here and anything I offer would pale in comparison to that knowledge), I do read these forums with great interest. You all provide a great service to us lurkers. Your knowledge shared is appreciated and I personally believe that because of folks like you giving good solid advice and information regarding the dangers of these storms lives are saved. I can't prove it but I believe it.

My prayers are for your safety and for the safety of your families, first and foremost. Should the worst come, I pray it does not, please know that there are folks around the country on their knees on behalf of all residents of Florida. I hope that somewhere someone can take comfort in that.

God bless you and keep you all safe.
