is that responsible? I read the advise on how to correctly install plywood over windows and screwing plywood on the the side of a house to cover a window is definately the worst way to do it.
My point is why not show someone doing it correctly (barrel bolts, flush fit)....maybe the can't find anyone doing it right.
Is any plywood better than no plywood, regardless of how it is installed??

My understanding now is that if you don't have wide window insets and cant use barrel bolts to put the plywood flush, that you should cut plywood to have 4 inch overlap of the windows... so maybe what they were doing is ok if the plywood was cut large enough.

A lot of homes do have the storm shutters but this storm is affecting areas that in the past have not needed storm shutters or plywood. There has not been a storm like this in many years. Most people who have lived here less than 10 years have never experienced a severe hurricane i.e., Andrew 92, Donna 64 and Dora 60. I myself live inland, and if it tracks the way they suspect, we could have 100 mi winds which causes major problems with broken windows wherever you live.

that's nice and all but..
I just finished putting up plywood on my house.
The problem is though, what do you do in a situation like mine, vinyl siding with the window frames flush to the exterior?
I just took some 2.3" drywall screws and some fender washers and screwed it in, not exactly what i wanted to do because of the distruction to the siding, but I figured it was the lesser of the evils.
Any suggestion on what I should have done.
thanks, i appreciate it.
