Bring up old emotions

I've been visiting Storm2K for quite a while now and have finally gotten the courage to write. This is the first time I've ever wrote in any forum, so I'm a little nervous (forgive the spelling).

Twelve years ago I was stationed at Homestead AFB and on August 23-24, extreme SFL was ripped apart by Andrew. I am STILL dramatized by it (that's why I moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota as are many of my friends who still live down there (they re-built). I still have family in Miami.

But I wanted to say this. Please take what the NHC or the Weather Channel or any of the models say with a grain of salt. In Homestead we were only told to evacuate late Sunday afternoon (Andrew was practically on top of us by then). I don't really think anyone knows where this is going because it is so powerful that it'll make it's own path. On Friday 21 August it turned towards Florida, on Saturday 22 August it was going to hit Palm Beach, then Miami then FINALLY when it was almost to late, Homestead and Florida City.

Now, I'm not a meterologist or anything, but Mother Nature has a way about her that she will do what she wants, when she wants. And that goes triple for hurricane's too, especially one as powerful as Frances.

we survived Luis here, which was a strong CAT 4 and we are still traumatized by it too
Unfortunately, we didn't move to Minneapolis and still live in the hurricane belt and still have periods of high anxiety this time of year.

I've recently learned of some details of that event, that I will say are... interesting to say the least. As not to cause a full scale panic situation, I would imagine that the authorities are calling for evacuations in the areas that makes the most sense right now as not to clog up the highways. I think that people living in these areas have to use their best sense of reasoning and plan well. If you are on the outer banks, barrier islands or if you live in a mobile home, I would hope that you would be making plans to leave when it's called for. In any case, if there are people who are just uncomfortable period being in the path of this storm, they should plan the least constricting way to clearance areas as soon as possible.
