Emergency Alert System

#1 Postby Anonymous » Thu Sep 02, 2004 12:53 pm

The EAS was activated at noon in Central Florida. All emergency services are at maximum readiness. I work as a firefighter/paramedic in Kissimmee and we are in the path, just as we were with Charley. We have been ordered to report for work Friday afternoon and we will work through Monday morning. After that, the current plan is to work 24 hours on/ 24 hours off.

If Charley was any guide, I worked 354 hours in the period from 7/13 to 7/29. I got a total of 4 hours of sleep from 7/14 to 7/16. This will be worse. I hope all of you are ready.

We still have large amounts of debris and significant damage to many structures in the area. I am sorry to say, but we will lose many more structures with this one. I just hope that the fatality count will be at a minimum. The tornadoes of '98 were bad anough on all of us. This will be a long week or two....

Good luck and stay safe! I will post as soon as possible, but it may be awhile, as I am sure we will be busy and communications will be poor.

Pretty much the same for us here in Seminole. Shock, gloom and doom are evident everywhere but the job will get done. Good luck everybody!
