I'd Be Careful

#1 Postby Guest » Thu Sep 02, 2004 6:20 pm

Looking at a long range (5 day) satellite loop of this hurricane and the apparent break down of the ridge over the Carolinas makes me wonder if the northern turn isn't more than just fantasy.

With all due respect to the NHC and the TWC, perhaps someone is missing something? Pressures have been falling all over SC, NC, and VA the past couple of hours.

No offense to anyone, but...

There is an old front in there. Pressures naturally fall during the day when no major weather systems are coming through...it's a product of heating. Surface pressures will rise again at night. There is a giant surface high moving southeast from Canada as well...so pressures will likely rise more as the old front washes out.

Thank you for not bashing me for "-removed-".

hey CLTRDU the difference b/t your posts and hurricane_lovers is that you gave a good wx explanation of pressure falls. He on the other hand just says NC is gonna get hit and doesn't say why he thinks that. If he did that then it's no problem but he just appears to say NC for sure and that's it and offers no reasoning of any sort. I think that's what has a lot here wondering what's going on in his mind with this storm and it's possible track.

Thanks for your response Wlfpack. I don't "wish" this thing on anyone, but am trying to get a grasp on the features at play. I wish I understood the mechanism at play better but try to apply what little I know to seek answers. (BTW, I'm an NCSU MLA grad...1999).

I never said NC. I have said anywhere from Charleston, SC to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Why do you think that?

Ok, why do you think this solution is probable? I'd really like to know what your reasoning is for this sort of forecast. Ridge weakening? Trough? I'm rather curious about this.
