South of Orlando is bad news. It puts Orlando on the right side (N.E. Quadrant) of the storm. That's not the side you want to be on.

I had the same experience in Andrew - my parents called me at 5:30am or so, during the craziest part of it. I later found out that by some bizarre chance, my phone was the only one for two blocks around which didn't go out.

Never did understand how that happened, but it sure made me poular with the neighbors for a couple of weeks! :-)

Maybe Stewart has been reading the wobble jog board (AKA storm2k for the past 4 days) and got contaminated. Since he coulndt just post a new topic here because of NHC policy he made a special update.

A slight shift North by a few, but it looks the same since the 18z model run. By the way, the A98E run looks kinda weird and garbage like.

We will just have to wait and see.

However, they aren't called Accuweather for nothing.

Even if Frances turns to the north, it would most likely weaken.

Stay tuned.
Don't panic.
95% sure this is going to be a Florida event.

Nope, too much damage done already.

Maybe A99E will be better. :)

A98E is the Keith Richards of the model ensemble....ugly and drug-addled, but entertaining for the most part.

A98E always looks weird. Ignore it - I do except for comic relief.

I notice the UKMET is a little more southerly. The others look pretty steady.

This thing is already moving at 280-285 again...

I'd say look out in the Miami-FLL-WPB zone.

lyons is correct...storm is sickly.....lots of dry air wrapping in.....open eyewall......

140mph official intensity should have a wink wink asterick.

Completely Wrong!!!

Slowing down = WEST not NORTH.

The ridge continues to BUILD north of the storm.

Slow = storm has found the ridge = left turn.

Slow also gives more time for reintensification over 88 degree water.

Some info out of Eleuthera

#3060 Postby Terry » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:37 pm

from the briland.com message board. They have a network of about ten sat phones and 20 VHF radios on the island.

"6:00p EST
ZNS is broadcasting right now that the Glass Window Bridge is sporting 30-feet waves and has been closed to all traffic. Further north in Eleuthera, the commercial dock at Three Islands facing Harbour Island is completely submerged, even though it’s still low tide.

5:00p EST
South Cat Island command control is reporting 110 mph winds there at 5:00p, well in advance of the storm's expected eye landfall at 8:00p this evening.

2:00p EST
Governor's Harbour High School is being closed as an emergency shelter, thanks to a compromised roof. All residents are being transferred to Worker's House there. "
