From MA to Miami...

#3061 Postby NJCane » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:40 pm

One of the effects that most of the east coast is feeling are the swells from Frances. These should continue to grow along the whole coast and peak at 6-10 feet here in NJ. Today seas were 3-6 feet in building swell all day and as a result tides were above normal. For any of you who see the beach, let me know how your beach made out today from the distant (12-17 sec) swell.

Slowing down = WEST not NORTH.

The ridge continues to BUILD north of the storm.

Slow = storm has found the ridge = left turn.

Slow also gives more time for reintensification over 88 degree water.
wnw is official and thats all I will believe :wink:

Thanks Hugo Vet. Thought we were out of the woods for sure. I still think so, but it will be interesting to see how local mets spin this at 11:00.

Yea, the seas were rough here. Yo NJCane, where in NJ are you? OC is right south of Atlantic City.

Well I'd be getting hammered too if I was stuck on an island with a hurricane on top of me...

Imagine a 30 ft. wave, if you can. To me a wave of just 12 ft. wave is pretty awesome!

Yea, I am in Brigantine. I love surfing and surf all year round no matter if it is 20 degrees or 100. I guess it further fuels my interest for hurricanes. Unfortunately, I hurt my foot and can't surf this swell :(

Yea, it's sort of a guilty pleasure. We get great waves from hurricanes but never the damaging winds that others get. Well, get well soon, cause the waves may get bigger.

cape may county

#3072 Postby jude » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:50 pm

I'm in Cape May County, too.
My kids were in the water all day- raving about the surf. Surfers, boarders and kayakers here.
Feeling guilty for the immense relief over the fact that Frances is not hitting here.....

Praying for those in its path.

Frances beginning to speed up?

#3074 Postby PTrackerLA » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:51 pm

In the last few frames of the IR sat., it looks as though Frances is moving again and heading almost due WEST. Miami ain't off the hook for sure.

The waves should end peak at a little less than twice the size of today. Nasty rips.

God bless those souls down there. We close our bridges locally when WIND GUSTS reach 50 mph, let alone WAVE HEIGHT. The Islanders are truly a tough bunch!

Earlier report from Man-O-War Cay - Abacos

#3078 Postby Terry » Thu Sep 02, 2004 8:54 pm

"Man-O-War Cay, Abaco

* From: "George Phillpot" <phillpots5 AT coralwave.com>
* Date: Thu, 2 Sep 2004 16:35:12 -0400

Man-O-War and the central Abaco district were hit with the first of the outer bands of Frances at 1330. Lots of fierce lightning and it has been raining off and on since. Presently its blowing about 25-30 with gusts in the squalls about 35+. The ocean is getting really angry. I peeked at the beach earlier and there is already signs of erosion, but no more than in our normal winter weather. I can still hear the odd hammer and saw from time to time but people here are taking this very seriously. There are also a lot of sightseers riding around in their golf carts rather than sit in dark homes all day. We are watching the ZNS broadcast and there was someone calling in from Long Island and they said that there was lots of flooding as well as a reported gust of 99 from San-Salvador.

We are trying to rest up after a long preparation process .We’ll keep on posting,

George Phillpot "

How do you think this could affect the projected path, short and possibly long term?
