Dont Understand this...

Can someone explain to me why the NHC has this Hurricane going on a WNW/NW track over water.. but once it hits land.. to go basically straight across the state? I guess I am not seeing what would cause that and what the difference in steering would be over water compared to inland

a variety of reasons ranging from an actual change in the deep mean layer steering flow to the fact that as the hurricane weakens overland it begins to respond to lower level flow which would tend to be a bit more easterly than ESE.
