Must Stop Micro Managing These Things

#1 Postby EmeraldCoast1 » Fri Sep 03, 2004 11:11 am

I enjoy following canes as much as anyone, but when people start micro managing them it really takes the science and the fun out of it. We shouldn't be posting every time one little blip of convection moves, or when the eye wobbles. Wobbles seem to go 360 degrees around the compass, especially in these big storms.

I am not going to take the time to do the research, but I bet there have been hundreds, if not thousands, of posts over the past few days that have jumped to conclusions every single time the storm had a satellite picture taken of it. It's getting out of hand.

Like Mike Watkins has said before, these storms are very large and very complex. They can't be forecasted on an hourly basis, but should be examined over time and for trending. Basically, this system has tracked very close to model / forecast guidance over the last 4 days and will likely continue that trend with a few deviations here and there.

Let's quit micro managing and discuss more long range trending and what people are doing to prepare along the peninsula. Think of it this way: if there had never been a perfectly formed Frances leading up to this point and all of a sudden we saw the last satellite loop, we would be going nuts over this massive storm forming in the Bahamas.

I'm all for discussion within reason.

Now some folks get on these personal attacks, and that stinks. :grr: :grr: :grr:

Yeah, this board has become the new crack for me. It's a hard habit to kick.

Yeah, me too. I loved it so much I told my roommate about it, and now when I get home from work SHE tells ME what's going on. It's MY crack! I saw it first. ;-)

Seriously, it's great that this place is so accessible to ordinary folks like us, and that we can share an addiction to it. We both see and learn different things here, and it's fun to discuss over dinner (or in the car, on the phone, by email, walking down the hall, in the grocery store....)!

Yeah, and BC showed it to me, and since then I've been pimping it to all my friends/coworkers. Now we're all hurricane crack monkeys who holler "WEST!" "SHEAR!" "RIDGE!" "ERC" and such at each other. It's like a whole secret language!
