What is the line starting up and then curving to east? It clearly catalyzes convection, especially close to the centre.

Looking at http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/DATA/RT/EATL/VIS/20.jpg, it indeed connects Ivan to Africa. Maybe it goes all way to Moscow...
Seriously though, any pro can offer an explanation? Just a simple, although unlikely, outflow boundary? Different kind of boundary?
