Flooding a major problem.....

coming up for us here in west central Florida -- and likely elsewhere, too:

Statement as of 11:53 am EDT on September 3, 2004


... The Flood Watch remains in effect until 1000 PM EDT Sunday
evening. The watch continues for the following counties...

Charlotte... Citrus... De Soto... Hardee... Hernando... Highlands...
Hillsborough... Lee... Levy... Manatee... Pasco... Pinellas... Polk...
Sarasota and Sumter.

Some cities in the watch include...

Arcadia... Bartow... Bradenton... Brandon... Brooksville... Cape Coral...
Chiefland... Clearwater... Clearwater Beach... Fort Myers... Inverness...
Lakeland... New Port Richey... Port Charlotte... Punta Gorda...
Sarasota... Sebring... Spring Hill... Tampa... Venice... Winter Haven and
Zephyrhills.

Hurricane Frances is forecast to move across the northern and central
Bahamas today and tonight. It is then forecast to approach the east
central Florida on Saturday... slowly moving inland across central and
North Florida Saturday night and Sunday.

The forecast slow movement of Frances means that rainfall from 5 to
10 inches is possible through the duration of the storm along and to
the right of the forecast path... with locally up to 20 inches
possible. This is true even if Frances weakens over land to a
tropical storm or depression as rainfall amounts are
not related to the strength of the winds... but rather the
translational speed of the system.

To the south of the path... 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected with
local amounts to 6 inches. These amounts will aggravate already
flooded rivers in west central and southwest Florida.

Residents living in flood prone areas should take action to protect
property.

Generally speaking, most city infrastructures are built to handle up to 1" an hour of rainfall. Anything more than that will result in flooding.

I'm down to using garbage bags for sandbags... my yard floods after most heavy summer storms... I'm expecting a battle to keep it out of my lower rooms. The shed ( if it remains standing) is almost guaranteed to have a foot of water in it after this is all said and done.

Dixie you are in Citrus county right? My in laws live in Inverness which is not far from you!

All the rain they get west of us, comes right down to us.......we dont need anymore water

Yes, I am, Crystal River. Always floods here, especially west of U.S. 19.
