I'm sorry but I have to post again

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

I'm sorry but I have to post again

I'm sorry but I have to post again concerning
this "movement thing" but does it really look like Frances
is moving wnw or nw at 8mph?

I guess I'll go see my eye doctor on Tuesday.

I can not determine the mvmt. It looks just crazy to me. Don't apologize about posting again. :)

Stormcenter, don't feel bad. I'm going to have to have my eyes professionally uncrossed when it's all over--can't make out movement this afternoon either.

That's cause she isn't moving much at all. Near I can tell, she's just sitting and spinning.

Miami radar has not been updating for some reason. The latest loop I pulled up seems to show wnw slow movement. Some deep convection dev. east of center

It's really hard to judge the movement when there is no eye or obvious center. You see all sorts of crazy motion on the satellite too. Once, or if, the eyewall redevelops it should be easier to track from Miami or Melbourne's long range radar.

Question...If she sits out there without to much movement, doesn't the high have a chance to pull her west sooner then later.

I believe the movement designated is the average speed in the last 12 hours.

Go with the NHC track. They are getting fixes every three hours from aircraft flying into the storm.

They say it's still 300 -- WNW, and there are wobbles. Also, the eyewall went through an expansion, stronger winds not now as tightly clustered, more spread out through the storm. The eye is still the low-pressure center, but the convection is in different places.

Stay safe.

I think the reason the NHS is calling for WNW movement and witnessing WNW movement is because their detection techniques includes a great deal of things, including airplanes, dropsondes, etc etc. They do a bit more than click "refresh" on a very low res sat loop every 15 minutes.

I certainly can't detect any motion right now either. I can only imagine what it's like for some in the Bahamas who have been battered by this storm since yesterday.

Frances moved 23.2 miles between 2pm and 5pm Eastern, that's an average speed of 7.73 mph. Over the last several three hour periods, the average three hour speed was one to three miles lower than (what I mentioned above) the average 12 hour periods the NHC goes by.

The 5pm location is NW of the 2pm location.

Radar

#14 Postby Stormcenter » Fri Sep 03, 2004 4:30 pm

I've come to the conclusion that I don't need glasses.
Frances IS "currently"drifting westward and not wnw or nw. I think it's pretty obvious looking at the radar loop (link below). The center is clearly
coming into focus. Now this may be temporary movement but it is
happening.

You are exactly right. Eventually, even Dr. Lyons may catch on.

I needed that after the day I've had. That is so funny.
