Death toll in Japan from Typhoon Chaba rises to 13

#1 Postby senorpepr » Fri Sep 03, 2004 8:03 pm

The death toll in Japan from Typhoon Chaba has risen to 13, with four missing.

The powerful storm wreaked havoc across many parts of the nation, flooding homes, uprooting trees and causing transport chaos.

The typhoon, the third deadly storm to lash Japan in the last two weeks, is now reported to have weakened into a tropical depression.

Meanwhile, Typhoon Songda is heading towards Japan, after lashing a remote part of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Emergency officials say the storm forced the area's tiny population into World War II bunkers for shelter.
