my good friend has a house on a private island just offshore of abaco. They rebuilt after Floyd, and if its gone, they may not come back.

Really sad

There is a beautiful resort on Grand Bahama Island - called Our Lucaya. It's on the beach (south side of island) near Lucaya. Our family has vacationed there this summer and last. I can only imagine what's going on there - with them facing dead south and Frances stalling nearby.

Good luck to all of our friends and neighbors in the Bahamas.

I have a half finished house on Eleuthera (aka. Lutra). As the eye was passing over, our builder called and said the first half of the storm wasn't as bad as Floyd, There were trees down, some shingles flying around and a few roofs damaged. But, he also heard from the south end of the island, that the back side was packing a stronger punch. Waiting for phone lines to be restored to get a damage assessment. Eleuthera has a single lane bridge known as the Glass Window Bridge that separates the north from the south. This bridge has be serverly compromised by both Andrew and Floyd and never really repaired except for a few concrete patches. Floyd actually moved the structure a couple of feet. If it washes out completely, I'm not sure how they would cope... Only one two lane road the length of the island and it would be severed.

I agree Stormsurge! The longer she hangs around, the more damage she'll cause! :(

Wood doesnt take that long to waterlog and weaken. I can't imagine what it will be like.

Hopefully they will miraculously pull through decently!

I wonder how many people evacuated from the islands to the US. I know I heard that some were.
