Anyone else see an eyewall on KAMX?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Anyone else see an eyewall on KAMX?

#1 Postby skysummit » Fri Sep 03, 2004 9:15 pm

I know it's a radar image and the beam is extremely high, but in the last 15 minutes (3 frames 5 minutes apart), I see a circular pattern right over that little island that is just to the left of the larger island

Looking at the satellite imagery, this exact same location is right in the middle of colder cloud tops.

I'm looking at KAMX at 248 miles. I use a smoothing function so the image is really clear....not pixelly.

Anyone see this or is it my eyes playing tricks on me?

Its kind of funny a tropical storm like Gaston had a closed eye wall. While this has no eye wall by recon plus its a cat2?

Skysummit,

Can you provide a link to what you're looking at? Very interesting...

goto miamiweather.info

click on the radar, and you can choose long range to see the kamx radar

I think this is what you are talking about

In the latest few IR4 frames, it appears that eye may be trying to clear out...anyone else see this?

wouldnt be able to tell if it were an eyewall from IR sat....its a warm spot near the center of circulation...

the next couple of frames after the circular warm spot has a larger area of random warmer tops.....id guess its just temporary convective activity but only time (and recon reports) will tell.

I don't have a link. It's a program I use that extracts data from the NWS. It's basically the same data that's on their website, but I'm looking at the long range mode. Also, the program has an option to "smooth" the data so it doesn't look so "blocky". It also saves the last 15 or 20 frames of data so you can view a loop at anytime. It updates every 4 or 5 minutes.

you could see it from here...that area of random green within the red began as a single dot of green.......i dont think it had anything to do with an eye springing out of nowhere...

http://www.nrlmry.navy.mil/tc_pages/04_ ... _full.html

this shot also shows the continued affects of sw sheer...it is evident fromt he abrupt nw to se line of green on the west side of the cold tops....

Please don't keep us in suspense any longer. What program is it that you use?

   Ok.......you have to be nice though because this software is free as of the moment. The author is trying new features out usually weekly and is releasing his software for people to try and give him feedback. One day, after it's perfect, he's probably going to plan on selling it. To be honest, it's the best radar software I have ever used.

Once you download it, play with it for a while. You have the option of choosing any radar in the country along with Puerto Rico and Guam. You also have the option of monitoring storm attributes seeing storm directions, zooming all the way down to street level, looping, and seeing warnings for the entire country.

After you download it, before you ask questions, please play with it for a while. There's a good bit you can do with it. On the download page, there's also a link to a forum that discusses all the features of the software. You can go there to post questions, or suggest features. Feel free to ask me anything about it while I'm on here though.

Go to the link and look under "Downloads" (it's under the closeup images of Charley". You'll need the two first files, the 5.6 MB and the 740K files.

Look at the very bottom of the page.....you MUST have these requirements....ESPECIALLY Direct X 9.0 or better. If not, the program will fail on opening.

here's the link.....

I have previously. It was sent to me by another person last week sometime. I haven't used it much, but it appears to be really nice and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to use it either.
