Will Frances strengthen?

#1 Postby Windfall » Fri Sep 03, 2004 11:31 pm

this hurricane is going to move over the the gulf stream for several hours before making landfall late tomorrow night. How much strengthening can be expected? Is this going to be another Charley or Labor Day Hurricane?

Windfall,

Some restrengthening might be possible through mid-day given a more favorable environment. One should not see the kind of explosive deepening that occurred with Charley, much less the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 (892 mb!).

She's dying an awful, slow, painful death. I almost can't wait until she hits land and finally is put out of her misery.

It's very possible with her moving so slow. If she would climb up a little more north and clear the land she is hovering over, this would be even more of a possibility.

Again don't forget about the rains this thing will dump. A lot of tropical moisture available as the circulation will help pump in extra gulf moisture even as she moves n-ward through Florida.
