Thank God Frances has weakened, but..

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

many will consider this a false alarm just like Floyd back in 1999 and become complacent with the next big one that won't turn or weaken. Which in turn will only lead to an eventual disaster...MGC

I agree

I am a little dissapointed that after 20+ hours of just shutter installation and another couple days of preparation... and barely any rain!

Must warn that although unlikey...there is still a possibility that Frances could bomb out tomorrow a it approaches the coast. Of course...I am rooting for this NOT to happen.

But to your point...there will be enough people angry that we didnt get a cat 3 that there could be loss of life the next time this happens.

PS...Ivan...go away.

Yea I fear this too. Sooner or later the conditions will come together to give cent/ne-ern FL (as well as se FL) a major Cat 3/4 storm and I hope that people will continue to take the warnings seriously. Better safe than sorry.

But then again being in the wx business means you're damned if you do , damned if you don't. We get fussed at for underestimating Charley and it's landfall, but then the same is going to happen for possibly overestimating Frances. I can understand the general public's anger over this but at times it does get annoying to those in the wx business who understand we do the best we can and that wx prediction is still far away from being 100% if ever being 100%.
