for those on GOM

Have you seen the model projections on http://www.weatherunderground.com. The GFDL, BAM and GFS (all plotted today) show the second landfall around Mobile. It seems if the storm stays over open gulf water that long it will have the time to reintensify a great deal more. Can anyone look at the conditions in that part of the gulf and predict how strong the storm could possibly get.

I was just taking a peek at last night's GEM ensembles and a considerable number of them take the storm west to LA or even TX. The consensus says that a 2nd hit will be near the LA/MS/AL borders. This is still a few days out, and the models have been trending somewhat west. I'll take a look at the GFS ens and see if it has any members going further west in the Gulf.

I am concerned, esp. about rainfall totals. We were over 6 inches above normal rainfall in Aug. We've had a pretty soggy summer (well, July & Aug.).

Not concerned here, either, right now. Will definitely keep an eye on it, though.

I'm also pretty well prepared. Stocked up on food and water. If needed wouldn't take long to get the storm panels up. Of course I live on a bayou and water levels would be my concern. The kids are home from college and I can sure put them to work fast. Just say a prayer for the folks in FL.

If this pans out, the slow progress could be a player too once it gets back over water. Unfortunatly, FL will suffer greatly with a slow mover, but it will give NGOM residents time to watch (and prepare)....
