local church looted

#1 Postby spaceisland » Sat Sep 04, 2004 9:36 am

How sad...local news here in Melbourne is reporting that Ascension Catholic church was looted during the night... about six blocks from our home. Local police officer lives down the block, and just saw him go cruising by. Alot of branches down from first squalls, but we still have power.

Considering putting a sign out front... "this house protected by 9 mm, 30.06, 12 gauge, and a 70 pound compound bow....your choice." :x

I noticed that several counties last night put immediate restrictions on the sale of alcohol and bullets!

I wonder if the rules change about protecting your household if weather prevents police from responding and you MUST protect yourself... (I know, I know, we shouldn't even be here... )

When we were preparing, a man was arrested in a Home Depot parking lot for reselling plywood at twice the price...

All the children, and my wife, are sleeping. I intend to keep them secure.

It is sad that some must feel they need to take advantage of times such as this. Have seen it here in NC also. You have the right idea, if need be keep your home and loved ones safe.

Good luck and stay safe.

Weather has nothing to do with it. If you are defending your home, you don't have a "duty to retreat". Anyone who decides to loot or worse during or after a storm has earned what they get.

"Lawful Use Of A Firearm For Defense

A license to carry a firearm is not a license to use it. Under Florida law, you can use deadly force only if you reasonably believe yourself or another person to be in danger of death or serious personal injury, or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony (such as rape, robbery or carjacking). There are two important concepts to remember: The first is the "Duty To Retreat"; this means that if you can avoid the danger by running away, then run away, no matter how you may feel that this affects your honor. The second is the "Castle Doctrine", which means that you do NOT have a "Duty To Retreat" when in your own home or place of business; you can stand your ground and defend your premises and possessions even if you could avoid personal danger by running away."

A local restaurant has a good sign, it's of a big gun and there's the caption underneath, "We don't call 911"

What a shame that people will take advantage of this disaster. I'm more afraid about looters and thieves for my boyfriend in Miami who is staying in his waterfront house than I am about the storm.

Yup, I remember when I was younger and my mom first got a handgun after my dad died -- someone told her, "If someone breaks in and you shoot them at the doorway, make sure they fall INTO the house."
