Awesome map, landfall, high tide now! Web cam knocked out

#1 Postby Florida_brit » Sat Sep 04, 2004 11:26 am

Its hight tide around Jupiter/Stuart/Fort Perice....at the moment...sea looks very high and rough!

Jupiter's web cam/weather station has just been knocked out by winds of 80 miles an hour. http://www.evsmartin.com/martin.htm

Tides: select area: http://www.saltwatertides.com/dynamic.d ... sites.html

Next high tide for Jupiter/Stuart/Fort Perice is at 2am approx the time of the likely landfall. Note high tide will effect storm surge up rivers/on to land etc increasing the risk of flooding.

Landall location map: http://www.skeetobite.com/FLHurricane/NHC_ADV40.jpg

Expected centre of hurricane on landfall (lots of detail) star marks the expected centre (well they have to give a corodiante!!!: http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?la ... tude=-80.3

Track/wind speeds/true diameter of storm: http://www.skeetobite.com/FLHurricane/track_ADV42.gif

ARe there any accounts on TV/Radio of the effect of the high tide on the land? I saw a photo of lots of tv vans lined up along the near sea front in Meklbourne! Any news? This may give some indication to the next high tide, however the rivers would also have had much rain by then and be swollen....high tides and swollen rivers can lead to extensive flooding!

Usual disclaimer focus on the entire hurricane size and not a point...its around 400miles across! Wider than parts of Floirda! And the eye about 30miles wide...subject to change in direction etc...

Looks like the weather station may still be functioning-- sustaning wind of 73, gusts to 85. But, anemometer "thingie" on right side shows wind out of East 85-87.

Love the angry bowing cloud picture on left!
Thanks for posting link!

My hypothesis of why the cam went down, was a massive power outage at aprox. 11:15am. The Stuart news cam that overlooks Witham Field (Stuart's Airport) also went down about that time, and no weather data has been transmitted from Witham Field since. Similarly, the Jupiter Inlet Cam, PBIA cam, and the I-95 (Palm Beach) traffic cams seem to have gone down about 40 minutes later. This would be consistent with power lines and transformers failing under +hurricane force winds. According to the NWS some of the strogest winds are about to start coming onshore in the next hour to hour and a half. Of my greatest concern was the appearance from the Jensen Beach webcam that the surf was already breaching the dunes. My family's condo of 25 years is about 1/4 mile north of the webcam, and is easily visible on a good day. The sherrif's scanner(Martin Co.) is still up and active as of 12:37 http://www.sheriff.martin.fl.us/cad/cad2.html Of course they would be using generators.
