Question from a rookie

Why doesn't the trough that is coming from the west push this storm to the NE. From what I've read here it will apparently strengthen the high to the N, is that true or am I out to lunch?

There is a High to the WSW (Cuba) of Frances that is essentially blocking the trough.

The theory is that the trough pulls out, the high to the north pushes Frances across Florida into the GOM, then NW to somewhere.

It's way too far away to catch Frances yet.

And what happens is that amplitudes in the higher latitude dynamics tend to propagate west to east, so when a truogh digs way down in the west like this, you get a bigger amplitude ridge in the east in response.
