Good afternoon,
After much preparation of our local shelter/home I am now ready to send out updates as to local conditions. Currently I am located in Deltona, FL in Southern Volusia county.
Max wind gust we have seen at this time is estimated to be around 50 mph, several medium sized tree branches have begun to come down. We are at this time in and out of it as spiral bands break off, but have not yet fallen under the main rainshield. Power is holding well, with only flickers during the strongest windgusts. Sustained winds are around 25-35 mph but as squalls come it they quickly ramp up for a while, then calm back down as the sun has peeked through now and again also. Radar indications that the northern rain shield has begun to move into the Volusia county area and we expect tropical storm conditions to begin in the next 4 hours. We have been told to expect hurricane conditions very late this evening and last for several hours, but this is all dependent on the track and intensity. If the storm begins to wrap up more, we could actually see less here than originally forecasted. If it moves farther to the north, it could be a great deal more. Its a wait and see game. More to come later.

Dmetal,
Thanks for your report.
I need to know about west Volusia, because I spent 2 days boarding up my Mom's house up there by myself.
It's still a waiting game and I'm sure you're as stir crazy as we are.
Be safe and keep us up to date.
I'm down in Osceola County, whwer the rain is now hard and wind gusts near 40.
Something like a trash bag just blew by the small back window that's under a lanai and the only not boarded.
I have a lonely squirrel clinging to the screen (I think he may have lost his home in Charley) looking for shelter .

Update 4:05 PM. Just had most intense squall band yet move through, wind gusted to 60 briefly (medium size limbs falling, small objects began to get picked up). Picked up 1/4-1/2 inch of rain before things calmed down. Power flickered once, but still holds, radar shows the continued approach of main rainshield.
Yes, we are quite stir crazy here. I hate to say it, but we'd almost rather it just move through so we can get this over with. Going to nap for a while, Ive got the midnight house watch (we'll be taking turns, to make sure no problems arise) and need to be alert for that.
Take care down there in Osceola, its going to get worse there before it gets better it seems!

Thanks for the report. I have friends on Enterprise-Osteen Rd, right across from the lake. I'm very concerned about them. One friend lost fifty trees when Charley went through. Please keep the posts coming when you can.
