Pretty gusty and hard rain here in Orlando already

We all may be in for a long rain event. I just don't see how the winds will be as much as they predict for our area (70+). No way they will be as strong as what we saw in Charley (105mph) We sure don't need it with all the tarps on all the damaged roofs around here. The rains will be bad enough coming into all those home. It sounds like the coast so far hasn't even gotten it as bad as we did during Charley. 91 mph is all I've heard so far, is that correct? I guess the big difference is that what you get will last a lot longer.

The strongest winds aren't onshore yet. Gusts over 115-120 mph are possible near the landfall point.

I live north of Orlando and am one of those that until yesterday had tarps on the roof. I took them down (because after the first 50 mph gust they'll be sailing to the next county) and tried to cover the two large holes with 30-lb felt tucked under a row of shingles. I don't know what 75-85 mph winds for 6-8 hours will do to 30-lb felt, but it's better than nothing I guess. Charley dumped 2" of water into my kitchen which flooded under the walls and into the dining/living area carpet. I haven't even been able to get an estimator out but am on a waiting list which will only grow longer now. I can only imagine how water will find its way under the seams of the tar paper after 6-8 hrs of those winds, IF the tar paper even stays put for more than an hour or two! Some of these early feeder bands have been pretty intense, and this is only the extreme edge of the storm.

Good luck there NFLnut. I hope you can hold the place together. It will definitely be a looong day or two for you and a lot of folks like you around here. Fortunately during Charley I didn't sustain any damge to my house. Just lost all my trees. My neigbor across the street has a crushed roof over his garage with a tarp loosely draped over it. Each gust lifts it up to expose all the rafters. The house was condemned and he's not been there in a while. The damage will definitely be worsened by Monday. Just hope none of it flies my way.
