Wow....Strengthening

#1 Postby MWatkins » Sat Sep 04, 2004 3:26 pm

The latest visible satellite imagery suggests that this could be getting better organzized...and even without a tight inner core...WTVJ reports that the TPC will be upgrading back to major status at 5PM due to some data from the new stepped frequency equip on the NOAA aircraft.

Unfortunately...Frances isn't done yet.

Is Frances stalled again? It sure looks to be creeping west on radar.

Yep here is the report Derek posted.

It appears we have a Cat3 on our hands again. Hopefully there won't be to much deepening.

No, it is strengthening.

The NHC tends not to jump on every data report. They like to look for trends before they upgrade winds or downgrade for that matter.

They held up Frances as a major hurricane for hours when there was no evidence from the hurricane hunters.

umm...no its not...

recon shows no decrease in pressure and no increase in winds (per their own discussion)....there is no "data" to jump on...

i know people are rooting for this thing but it just isnt happening at this time...

WFOR is reporting that the SFMR data has 116 m.p.h. at the surface. If true, we have a cat 3 hurricane

Again, there is data.

Yes, there is data to jump on. There was a report from WFOR and Bryan Norcross. Read the thread about it.

yes 1 piece of anomalous data....vs all the recons and dropsondes that say otherwise...

there hasnt been a 100+ flight wind for over a day now.....105 is generous.

ugm... 97 kts is well over 100 mph. If there is surface data that proves 115+ mph winds are evident I dont see why you argue.

of course flight level winds are in kts...i left off the units...105 = mph at surface, 100+ = kts at flight level....

i find it comical that people believe the NHC would underestimate surface winds.....the exact opposite is true...thats just common sense.

There hasn't been a recon report since a bit after 1 EDT....they said estimated pressure, not as measured recently.
