Lyons Said Ivan Could Go To Cat 5...!?!

Dr. Steve Lyons on TWC said during the last tropical update that TS Ivan is projected to be a Category 4/5 Hurricane near Puerto Rico sometime next week!!! :eek:

Now the NHC only brings it up to 95 kts in 120 hours...but I know one of the models forecasts 135 kts in 120 hours.

So was Lyons reffering to the model's prediction, or some inside info with the NHC???

Because it sure sounded different hearing him say that because he's usually pretty conservative in his rhetoric...

I heard him say a 140-150 Cat 5 north of PR. But those are Cat 4 winds.

The GFDL earlier brought it to a borderline Cat 5, just below 155 mph.

Doesn't the NHC have this going into the DR in 5 days?? He must have been refering to one of the models if he thinks it'll be north of PR...?

Either way, I can only image how many times we're going to hear "Ivan The Terrible" on this board this week!

Given its low latitude track,and the fact that the waters are very warm around the Carribean,I can see a cat. 5 Ivan a good posibility

Its going to be south of Puerto Rico by Wednesday according to Steve Lyons. That wouldn't be a Carolina event, but I'm a newbie so what do I know. Sounded like going to the Keys and into Gulf of Mexico.

Given its projected path,no it isn't going to be a Carolina event.Most definitely into the Gulf at some point

Hurricane Hugo took a very close track in 1989.

The DR would do significant damage to the structure.

This is not a definite Gulf event and it could be a Carolinas hit or Georgia or Florida or Virginia or fish. Who knows what the pattern will be like then, people didn't expect the high to be so strong with Frances and make it go so slow and into the Gulf.
