I dont mean to diminish the power of the storm in Florida... However, one silver lining is that this storm did not maintain its 145 MPH winds until landfall.... Had that occurred, this could've been the worst disaster ever in Florida. Imagine winds comparable to Charley pounding the east coast for hours and hours.... Everything would have been leveled.

This is true, however, we're being told there will be lots of damage due to the prolonged and sustained nature of the high winds. Hope not but lets see.

FL certainly got lucky with regard to the wind-field...and this may not turn out to BE the worst disaster ever to hit FL but I bet it will be pretty darned close...this is going to affect nearly the entire state in a BIG way...if not from wind, then from rain/flooding. Most storms are alot more localized in damage...I think everyone may be surprised just how bad/wide-spread the damage will be from this Cat 2 storm.
