What is it like being inside the eye?

#1 Postby Florida_brit » Sun Sep 05, 2004 2:22 am

Just wondering what it is like being inside the eye? Do you get tornados inside the eye....itself? As far as I am aware you get little wind?

How wide is Frances eye at the moment? I heard it was huge about 12hours ago but has it got smaller?

Thanks

The one I went through (Bertha) was much calmer than the surrounding wind, but not dead air (like 10 mph breeze.) WInd immediately kick up in opposite direction when other side arrived. This brke many branches and trees which got used to being blown in the opposite direction.

This eye is filling in quickly, it was about 35 miles a hour or so ago. Looks like no big break like you might have earlier thought.

Charley's eye past over us. The outside walls are very very windy. Inside the eye, it is slightly breezey, clear skies.

Compared to the rest of the hurricane, the eye is calm. I must caution however most storms have small eyes and move quickly unlike this one. It's not wise to get out during the eye of a normal storm.
