Well isn't that just great news. :(
The only bright spot is that we are all prepared as far as supplies. Maybe we will have a few days to clean up before it starts all over again.

I am surprised that Dr. Lyons would make such a statement this early.

It's a scary thought. My worse fear is this thing tracks basically over Puerto Rico and the lesser antillie, then directly heads for the southeastern United States, but more quickly. Should this hit the northern part of that projected path, this could remain a very strong and dangerous hurricane and avoid the high mountain areas of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. If it slams Haiti, the high mountains there should weaken it to a minimal hurricane. So it's very critical to see the exact track because that alone may determine the intensity overall.

While it's very early to determine exact tracks, the scenarios above are worth considering for later.

For him to go out on a limb like that must indicate very strong info.

Steve Lyons NEVER jumps the gun... so this should make everyone along the SE coast, and gulf very anxious.

When did Steve Lyons say that. I just his 4:50 update and he said that it's far too soon to know whether or not Ivan will impact the U.S.

I heard when he said that. I was watching The Weather Channel at the time.

Wow, I'm pretty suprised he said that too. He usually operates in CYA mode so they must have some pretty convincing data that they're watching.

Yeah, I heard him on the 5:50pm update saying that the projected path cone is pretty narrow so the confidence is pretty high. That's a little unnerving!

Earlier today, Dr. Steve Lyons said this hurricane could very well be a borderline cat 4/cat 5 when it hits the islands. I feel bad for the people that will be in the hurricanes path.
